Honor Oak Panthers

Our junior section was founded in 2018 but in a short space of time it has grown substantially to over 200 junior members and the club is thriving. Offering hockey for girls and boys from age 5 upwards, we cater for beginners through to seasoned performance players.

Our junior teams play in the London Area junior setup (from U8 tournaments to regular 11-a-side U16 league matches, and everything in between).

We aim to foster an inclusive environment in which kids can learn and develop their skills, make new friends, understand the value of teamwork and, most importantly, have a lot of fun!

Lots of information is included below. Please email hohcpanthers@gmail.com if you would like to enquire about joinin or if you have any further questions.

**Please note we are that registrations are now closed for the 2024/25 season. You can email us to enquire about occasional places that might come up**

Why join Honor Oak Panthers?

Here are just some of the reasons we think you’ll love our junior hockey club:

  • We have a fantastic facility where everything is on one site (with plenty of free parking)
  • Parents can relax in our pitchside clubhouse while their kids play (coffee and the papers anyone?!)
  • We always seek to maintain high coach to player ratios so that our juniors get the best training experience
  • We offer progression into our senior development teams from the age of 13, where players are ready to move to that level
  • We pride ourselves on being an inclusive and really friendly, welcoming club
  • Alongside our Sunday club we have also soent a lot of time on our Lewisham community hockey programme, seeking to increase participation in team sport across the borough. By offering free hockey coaching in local schools, a free after school club and free holiday camp days we hope to bring the sport to a much wider range of children who might otherwise not have the opportunity to get involved in team sport.

When & where?

Our season starts in September and runs through to the start of the school Easter holidays (with breaks for half terms and Christmas holidays)

Training takes place on Sunday mornings at the following times:

  • U6, U8 and U10 (up to and including Year 5) - 10:00 - 11:00
  • U12, U14 and U16 (Years 6 upwards) - 11:15 - 12:30

Matches and tournaments also take place on Sundays and times vary. We also seek to run a separate summer term programme each year, which also takes place on Sunday mornings.Contact us for more information.

We are now able to offer additional weeknight training sessions for our U12,U14 and U16 age groups. This takes place on Thursdays 16:45 - 18:00. Please contact us for more information,

All Panthers training and home matches take place at our home ground, King’s Sport Ground, in the heart of Honor Oak Park.

Fees

We offer all new prospective members a free, no commitment taster session before they decide whether to join.

After that we operate a convenient all-in membership which covers all training and matches/tournaments.

  • First child - £165
  • Siblings - £140 (15% discount)

The fee covers the whole main season from September through to the Easter holidays. Additional Thursday training and the summer term programme are charged separately.

Please note that junior members who are also playing in our senior sides will only pay once, and will not be expected to pay senior club membership on top.

We are not able to offer a “pay as you go” basis as the administration involved is so time-consuming and we are a volunteer-based organisation. However, we do not want affordability to be a barrier to participation so if parents would like to discuss alternative payment arrangements, including bursaries, we are very open to a conversation.

Please email hohcpanthers@gmail.com for further information.

Equipment & Kit

Junior members do not need to have their own hockey stick as the club supplies playing equipment. All participants will need to wear shin pads. We strongly recommend the use of gum shields.

Who doesn’t love a bit of stash?! Hoodies, playing kit and training kit are supplied by Tacklebag and are available to purchase via our webshop - click below to visit.

Please note that all players participating in matches/tournaments should have a playing top and socks. We are able to offer assitance to cover kit costs in some instances - please email hohcpanthers@gmail.com to discuss.

Fancy voulenteering?

All sessions are overseen by fully qualified and DBS checked head coaches, who are ably supported by a cast of assistant coaches.

We’re a volunteer-run club so we always appreciate any offers of support from parents who can commit a little time to help out, be that with coaching on a Sunday morning or assistance with administration, fundraising etc.

If you’re able to volunteer on some Sundays, please email hohcpanthers@gmail.com for more information.
