Why Honor Oak Hockey Club?

  • Our facilities are second to none in South East London - everything on one site, a brand new (blue!) main pitch, a second pitch, 12 changing rooms with showers and a state of the art clubhouse
  • We’re really well connected - just 20 minutes from central London on the London Overground (orange line) or National Rail, plus numerous buses (or lots of free parking if you prefer to drive or cycle)
  • Hockey is for everyone, whether you’re a seasoned player and wanting to compete in the top tiers of the London league or you want to try something new or returning to hockey we have a team for you!
  • Coaching from ex-GB players, with all squads fully supported by dedicated coaches and a real focus on development and game play
  • Whilst we were born out of King's College London and maintain a really strong relationship with the university, the club now has over 25 years of history behind it and has evolved into a local club open to all
  • We are seriously social whatever team you play for - we pride ourselves on being a sociable, friendly and welcoming club who love to win on the pitch but, just as importantly, want to have fun together off the pitch!

Women’s section

We currently field 2 teams in the London Area structure, making us the ideal club for players of all standards and whatever your previous playing experience. It goes without saying that both teams have a strong social vibe!

Men’s section

We currently field 4 teams, with our 1st XI offering a very competitive upper tier level of hockey in Division 2, through to our more socially focussed 3rd XI and our development level 4th XI squad. There is something for everyone in there.

A bit about the history of the Club…

Founded in 1999 by a group of uni mates, King’s Old Boys HC soon welcomed the creation of the women’s section a couple of years later. A combination of necessity and opportunity saw the club move from its original Wapping home a decade later, merging with Alleyn’s Old Boys HC and taking up residence at the school in Dulwich.

Eventually, the university fulfilled its promise to redevelop the old Guy’s Rugby Club ground in Honor Oak Park, at which point we moved the whole lot to the spiritual home we never knew we had. While there has always been a strong affiliation to King’s College London, we have consistently and actively welcomed members from any and every background. The firm roots we have put down are enabling us to evolve into a much more traditional local club, without compromising our long-standing values of mateship, competitiveness, humility and the pure enjoyment of playing hockey.

More recently, this drive to broaden our playing base even further has seen the club start its own junior section, Honor Oak Panthers, which not only provides local kids a conventional platform to learn and play our amazing sport, but we have also run extensive programmes in local schools on an entirely self-funded basis.

In 2024, its 25th year, the club took the decision to retire the name King's and Alleyn's Hockey Club and become Honor Oak Hockey Club - a local club for local people with a history intertwined with King's College London.
